Over the span of six weeks, I had the privilege of participating in the Global Solutions Conversations Virtual Exchange, organized by IREX through the University of Florida International Center. This experience connected me with students from across the U.S. and Kurdistan, Iraq, giving us a chance to learn from one another and discuss global issues in a meaningful way.

Each week, we met on Zoom to explore topics inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our sessions began with a thought-provoking video about communication or a global issue, which set our discussions. Afterward, the conversation was in our hands. We shared our perspectives, listened to each other, and learned about our different cultures, values, and ideas.

It was interesting to hear the perspectives from students from Kurdistan and Iraq and to compare them with our own. We discussed issues in our communities, from education to environmental challenges, and brainstormed solutions. I was amazed by how open and eager everyone was to connect, even though we came from such different backgrounds.

By the end of the program, I felt like I had made friends across the world. It showed me the power of communication and collaboration across cultures. I gained confidence in discussing touching issues with people from different perspectives, and I now feel more prepared for future international opportunities. The Global Solutions Conversations Virtual Exchange has inspired me to continue learning about the world and finding ways to create positive change in my community.
